Fresh Yam
Yams are internationally regarded as healthy food
items and encouraged as part of a normal diet. In the Pacific, the
yam is a popular and important food crop. In Tonga yams are so recognised
that they eaten on special occasions and given a distinct cultural
place. No matter how and when they are used, yams are recognised
for their delicious flavour and cultural values.
We provide quality yams in convenient and easy to store 2kg serving
bags and 10kg cartons and likewise for our USA customers but in
4.4lb serving bags and 22lb cartons.
Yams are nutritious and can be cooked in a variety of ways and we
have some recipes for your information. It may be mixed with many
foods to make tasty dishes. They are a good source of energy that
the body needs to stay active. They also contain small amounts of
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and Vitamin C. Vitamin B1 helps the body use
energy foods. Vitamin C helps to keep the body tissues strong, helps
the body to use iron, and helps chemical actions in the body.
When eaten in large quantities (which is usually the case in the
Pacific), yams provide some iron and niacin. Iron helps to keep
blood healthy and niacin also helps the body to use energy foods.
